Dr. Kelvin A. Ramirez, a board-certified registered Art Therapist and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (NYS), has years of experience incorporating art therapy within educational systems to enhance student's personal and academic growth. Dr. Ramirez has shared his expertise both nationally and globally with multidisciplinary teams.
Dr. Ramirez focuses on supporting adolescents, adults, couples and families navigating a range of mental health concerns and those seeking to enhance their creative spirit. Dr. Ramirez has over 20 years of experience treating clients who experience a range of treatment issues including grief and loss, racial trauma, and life transitions through a variety of approaches. Dr. Ramirez’s specialty in art therapy is a person centered approach.
“Based on the individual in front of me, that dictates the approach and style. In the first couple of sessions I look for where the client is, and what is their view…Depending on what their goals are, I will match an approach to their goals.” - Dr. Ramirez
Dr. Ramirez is the Executive Producer of Art Therapy: The Movie (2016), an independent film that explores the healing power of artistic expression through art therapy, and Love in the Making (2017), a thought-provoking independent film, that examines why we fall in love, what keeps us together, and what pulls us apart?
Recently, Dr. Ramirez is collaborating with community leaders in Juarez, Mexico through his initiative, “No Longer Bystanders” which focuses on supporting the complex mental health needs of asylum seekers. Currently, Dr. Ramirez is an Associate Professor in the Division of Expressive Arts Therapies with dual appointments in the Graduate School of Education at Lesley University, Cambridge, MA.
